Basic Function

The role of the Driver is to support the Transport Department to complete the daily duties set by the Transport Manager on both commercial and domestic collections. The Driver has a responsibility to contribute to CWM Environmental meeting its obligations set under the Operator’s License and in accordance with UK and EU Laws governing vehicle safety and driver hours.

General Duties:

  • Ensuring all daily tasks are completed within set deadlines.
  • To carry out daily vehicle checks before commencement of daily tasks.
  • Effectively communicate to the Transport Manager, any defects found on a vehicle as soon as it arises.
  • To assist with the Commercial element of the Business, by providing excellent customer care/service.
  • To communicate to the Commercial Department and/or Transport Department, any issues that may need clarifying/escalating.
  • To ensure all required paperwork is completed throughout the day.
  • Responsible for working in line with the company’s health and safety culture at all times by understanding the company’s health and safety policy and ensuring that the arrangements detailed in it are adhered to within your area of responsibility.
  • Working in line with the specific SSOWs for the tasks.
  • Ensure personal compliance with all company health and safety procedures.
  • Ensure that the correct PPE provided is worn at all times.
  • Ensuring that you adhere to all Company Policies and are familiar with the contents of the drivers Handbook.
  • Display a positive attitude at all times.

Specific Duties:

  • Ensure you understand your duties as a Driver i.e. driver hours and ensuring you carry out daily vehicle checks. Any faults to vehicles must be reported immediately to the Transport Manager.
  • To ensure the transportation of the waste material on board the vehicle is done in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
  • Identify defects on containers and report back to the Transport Manager for repair.
  • To ensure that the mobile phone and sat nav provided are in full working condition before starting your route.
  • To be able to interact with customers positively.
  • To complete all necessary paperwork provided, accurately and signed accordingly.
  • To load containers as per the SSOWs.
  • To offload containers as per the SSOWs.
  • Park up the vehicle as instructed and ensure all paperwork is returned to the Transport Managers Office.
  • To ensure downloading of tachograph information weekly to the Transport Foreman.
